Training and clinical practice
After completing her MBBS at Topiwala National Medical College and Nair Hospital and her MD in Internal Medicine at Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, Dr. Trupti trained in Infectious Diseases at Harvard University and Harvard School of Public Health, followed by a fellowship in HIV/AIDS at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
She returned to Mumbai in 2016, bringing together her experience of Indian clinical practice with international infectious-disease training. At Unison, she combines clinical care with research, teaching and public-health work.
Clinical interests
Her work often involves solving clinical jigsaw puzzles: persistent fever, unexplained rash, unusual imaging, recurrent illness or conditions that have not improved despite previous treatment.
- Undiagnosed and recurrent fevers
- Complex, uncommon and difficult-to-treat infections
- Hospital-acquired and post-surgical infections
- Antimicrobial resistance and stewardship
- Tuberculosis, including drug-resistant TB
- Infections in people with cancer or weakened immunity
- Sexual health, travel medicine and long-term HIV care
Research and public-health communication
Her research spans early HIV infection, viral dynamics, HIV prevention and self-testing, antimicrobial resistance, infections in cancer care and other areas of infectious diseases. She is also involved in medical education and professional conferences.
Through articles, public talks, media, social media and community campaigns, she works to make complex scientific information understandable and useful. During the COVID-19 pandemic this included the Bas Ab Jeetna Hai initiative. She is Visiting Faculty at the Jodhpur School of Public Health.
The person beyond the physician
Dr. Trupti is a mother of two and enjoys photography, travel blogging and art. She values hearing people's stories and particularly enjoys encouraging women to pursue their ambitions. For her, medicine is as much an art as it is a science.
