Unison Medicare is India's first fully comprehensive HIV care centre in the private sector, founded on the principle of non-discriminatory and non-judgmental care under one roof.
A diagnosis of HIV can bring many questions. We believe good HIV care begins with understanding, counselling and taking the time to talk.
We provide confidential HIV testing and counselling, help people understand their diagnosis and treatment options, and provide ongoing care and monitoring for people living with HIV. Counselling may include one-to-one pre-test and post-test counselling, couple counselling, family counselling or crisis counselling, depending on the situation.
Connected, long-term care
Care includes HIV testing, counselling, antiretroviral therapy (ART), monitoring, management of infections and other HIV-related conditions, and long-term follow-up. We also maintain a referral network of HIV-friendly medical specialists.
These services are provided in the same place, during the same visit and within a few hours. ART has transformed HIV into a manageable long-term condition. Our focus is on helping people start treatment when appropriate, stay on treatment, monitor their health, and live a healthy, fulfilling and meaningful life with HIV.
What viral suppression can make possible
When a person living with HIV becomes and remains virally suppressed, our shared goals include:
- Optimal quality of life with near-normal life expectancy
- No HIV-related hospitalisations
- No HIV transmission to a spouse or other sexual partners while viral suppression is maintained
- Successful relationships and marriages, including positive-positive and positive-negative partnerships
- Healthy pregnancies; more than 200 babies have been born to patients in Unison's care, all without HIV
Access and inclusion
People living with HIV who cannot afford ART and other treatment in the private sector are supported in connecting with publicly run ART centres and public hospitals, with Unison's continued involvement.
