Sexual Medicine

A private space to discuss sexual health, function, well-being and STI-related concerns.

A private, respectful conversation about sexual health at Unison

This page is for you if…

  • You have concerns about sexual function or desire
  • Sex is painful or difficult
  • You want to talk about sexual health with someone who will not judge you
  • You and your partner find it hard to talk about it
  • You have worries about sex after an STI or HIV diagnosis

Sexual health is an important part of overall health, but it can be difficult to discuss, even within a couple.

Our Sexual Medicine service provides a private and confidential space to talk about sexual health and function, including sexual difficulties, sexual well-being and concerns related to sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

The emphasis is on listening carefully, understanding the underlying cause, and discussing appropriate treatment and prevention options without judgement.

Who you may see

Senior doctors, not a revolving door.

You will be seen by one of our senior doctors. If you would like to see a particular doctor, say so when you call.

Questions people ask.

Is it normal to feel embarrassed?

Very. Most people find these conversations hard. Our doctors are used to them and will not judge you.

Will I need an examination?

Only if it is needed, and only with your consent. You can ask questions at any point.

Can I come with my partner?

Yes, if you both wish to. You are also welcome to come alone.

Is the treatment always medicines?

Not always. Depending on the cause, advice, counselling, tests or treatment of an underlying condition may help. Your doctor will talk you through the options.

Care at Unison is confidential and non-judgmental. Read our privacy promise.
